For as long as I can remember, I’ve struggled with my femininity. Society tells us that being feminine is “weak”, and I’ve seen firsthand how “girly girls” get taken advantage of. Due to this outdated patriarchal idea, things as simple as getting a manicure led me to feel that I wouldn’t be taken seriously at work. Seriously, I thought pink nails would make my boss think I “wasn’t goth anymore” and “had changed for a man”.
For years I let these ridiculous societal standards plague me, until one day I had an epiphany. I always say my “ultimate goal in life is to be Morticia Addams”. In fact my old dating profile used to read, “Morticia Addams looking for her Gomez.” This mystical, dark, spooky woman has been my idea of the perfect woman for as long as I can remember. So on this specific day, it should come as no surprise that my mind wandered to her.
And I realized something, I would never call Morticia weak. I would never want to cross her, and I would never think of her as anything other than the pinnacle of femininity. So if Morticia can be so FIERCE, and yet so FEMININE, then why can’t I? Thus, this tote was born.
I chose these 3 fictitious women because to me, they are are everything I aspire to be: spooky, fierce, & feminine. With Morticia in the center, the ethereal and sweet Lily is to her right, and the bold and beautiful Bride stands on her left.
